WEB: Kim Basinger Opens Up About Divorce's Impact on Daughter Ireland
Baldwin's Anxiety Stems from Parents' Messy Split
Basinger's Agoraphobia Also a Factor
Kim Basinger has opened up about the toll her divorce from Alec Baldwin took on their daughter, Ireland Baldwin.
In an interview with People magazine, Basinger said that Ireland has experienced anxiety since her parents' split. She also said that she herself has struggled with agoraphobia, a type of anxiety disorder that causes fear of being in open or crowded spaces.
"It's been a very difficult journey for both of us," Basinger said. "I'm so proud of the young woman she's become, but it's been a tough road."
Basinger and Baldwin were married from 1993 to 2002. They have one daughter, Ireland, who was born in 1995.
Basinger said that she and Baldwin have been committed to co-parenting Ireland and have put their differences aside for her sake.
"We're both very proud of her," Basinger said. "She's a strong, intelligent, and beautiful young woman."
